THE
CHRONOS PRIZE - RAISING AWARENESS THROUGHOUT SOCIETY

The Chronos Prize helps develop and promote closer relationships among
a rich variety of social groups.

Local and regional institutions
(at the city, department and regional level) are informed of the arrangements
for the Chronos Prize as soon as the list of Chronos sites has been
completed.

National
and international institutions
The nature of the Chronos Prize and the beliefs underlying it have
automatically led to links with national institutions, a positive
approach that has systematically resulted in immediate support.
The basic approach has won the support of six Ministries as well as
of the UN and UNESCO.

Research
Chronos
was conceived by a group of researchers from the National Gerontology
Foundation. Specialists in children's literature were brought in to
help develop the arrangements for the Chronos Prize and ensure that
it provided an outstanding area for study. Since then, students have
integrated Chronos into their research work.
Teachers have also shown their willingness to become involved with
Chronos. All of these groups took part in the 2nd Chronos Symposium
in October 1999 at UNESCO in Paris, on the theme of "Growing Up and
Growing Older - the Challenge for the 3rd Millennium", together with
the Assistant Director of Social Action for UNESCO, the Director of
Communications for the UN and numerous well-known speakers, including
Lady Sally Greengross, Chair of ILC-UK and Age Concern, and Professor
Françoise Forette, Chair of ILC-France.
This symposium reflected the high-quality work carried out by the
Chronos Prize in the fields of culture, research, education, teaching
and gerontology.

The
authors
The creation of the Chronos Authors Club, "The Chronos Club", will
bring together authors of children's literature who have written on
the theme "Growing up means growing older - Growing older means growing
up" and been Chronos Prize selections. This Club will serve both to
facilitate relations among the jury members and to represent Chronos
to the press and the media.

The
Honorary Committee
A prestigious Honorary Committee helps in developing the Chronos Prize
:
Pierre-Gilles
de Gennes, Nobel Prize for Physics 1991,
